Temporally compounding heatwave–heavy rainfall events in Australia

چکیده

Natural hazards often occur in combination with other natural rather than as isolated events. While some combinations of are well studied and their physical connection is increasingly understood, have received considerably less attention. High temperatures known to be an important component for conditions that lead heavy rainfall; however, sequences heatwaves followed by rainfall not especially a compound event context. Here, we analyse heatwave–heavy events across Australia using observations at hourly resolution. Our results show more likely if preceded heatwave, demonstrating should seen temporally compounding In particular, many regions experience both frequent extreme wet days immediately following heatwave. This behaviour strongest coastal regions, on the Australian east coast. These findings highlight need events, future changes either hazard impacts related risks such flash flooding.

Temporally Anchoring and Ordering Events in News

This paper describes a domain-independent approach to temporally anchoring and ordering events in news. The focus is on event-event and event-time linking. The approach involves mixed-initiative corpus annotation, with automatic preprocessing to identify clause structure, tense, aspect, and temporal adverbials. A controlled experiment reveals the capabilities of humans in ordering events in new...

Simulation of Rainfall - Runoff Events by Applying Phase Differences Diagrams and Correcting Effective Rainfall Components

The conversion of rainfall to runoff in basins includes nonlinear relations between the complex interactions of various hydrological processes. In this study, without considering of predetermined structure, relationship between input and output system was derived individually from the nature of the data recorded. Also, the phase difference occurred between rainfall and runoff signals using c...

Processing and Representing Temporally Sequential Events

In a discourse, events are narrated one by one linearly. But the temporal sequence of events does not always match the linear sequence of narration. One of such cases involves the mixed occurrences of durative and punctual events, as illustrated by “Mia took aspirin and slept, for she was ill. She then fell off a cliff in her dream." In this narration, five events are reported: three are durati...

Simulation of Rainfall Events and Overland Flow

We are interested in simulating overland flow on agricultural fields during rainfall events. The model considered is the shallow water system (or Saint-Venant equations) without infiltration, complemented with a friction term. In this context, we definitely have to cope with dry/wet interfaces and water inflow on dry soil. We present a simplified one-dimensional model, discretized with a well-b...
